Although we specialize in DNA testing, we understand that attorneys commonly need assistance with understanding DNA reports from other agencies, and we can also assist with case consultation.

Case Review

We offer full DNA case review and evaluation services. The following are the typical items reviewed in a DNA case:

  • The laboratory’s Quality Manual
  • The laboratory’s SOPs
  • Reanalysis of the electronic data using GeneMapper IDX
  • The entire case file, including banknotes, reports, chain of custody, photographs, etc.
  • Analyst’s CV, proficiency testing file, and any corrective actions
  • The laboratory’s internal and external audit summaries

In-trial Services

Expert Testimony: Pure Gold Forensics is often called for expert testimony if some glaring errors are found during the case review.

Observation of the Opposing Expert: Attorneys often find it beneficial for us to review the opposing expert testifying and offer cross-examination questions either on-the-fly or as part of trial preparation. These questions are very helpful in ensuring the right questions are asked and, more importantly, the correct answers are given.

Observation of Laboratory Testing

Often, the evidence is too minimal for the lab only to take half of the sample, which leaves the defense nothing in re-testing the DNA. If the prosecution’s lab intends to consume all evidence, we can provide expert observation to confirm its adherence to its protocols and general lab technique.
