How we yield a 48% success rate from fired casings

Pure Gold Forensics’ highly experienced DNA analysts process fired cartridge casings in an extremely meticulous manner. Our state of the art procedure is designed to capture the maximum amount of DNA present on a fired casing.  This preprocessing is followed with an organic extraction method to extract and isolate the DNA.  While the organic extraction method is a more laborious and manually intensive process than automated extraction methods, it is considered the “gold standard” in DNA extraction. Each cartridge casing is processed separately in order to decrease the probability of obtaining complex DNA mixtures.

Our techniques with fired cartridge casings have yielded a 48% success rate in obtaining usable (e.g. comparable) DNA profiles, up to and including CODIS-eligible profiles from single cartridge casings.
